Google officially unveiled the Pixel 11 series on Thursday – the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. At the heart of all models is the latest Tensor G6 platform, which not only increases energy efficiency, but also allows the device to run the Gemini Nano model on the device. This means that artificial intelligence tasks are performed up to 3.5 times faster and consume up to 3.5 times less power compared to previous solutions (Thurrott.com).

„Gemini is becoming more than just a standalone chatbot, but an integrated part of Gemini Intelligence that runs across the entire operating system. According to The Next Web, Gemini reads user actions and connects with messages, calendar, maps, and other Google services, suggesting or automatically completing the next step — for example, checking restaurant availability and initiating a reservation. This functionality is implemented directly in the Android 17 environment, rather than in a separate chatbot app.

Tensor G6 and performance improvements

"Server

The new Tensor G6 chip, according to Thurrott.com, boasts 50% more TPU compute power and 25% faster wireless charging. Additionally, the Gemini Nano model in place of the device allows for 25% faster web browsing and 15% faster app launch. Google says these features deliver up to 30 hours of battery life across the Pixel 11 lineup.

Camera and screen

"Smartphone

„The Pixel 11 series' cameras have also been improved. The Pixel 11 has a 48MP main sensor that collects 56 megapixels more light, along with a 13MP wide-angle and 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens with 30x Super Zoom capability. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL models feature a 50MP main sensor and a 48MP telephoto lens that now has 30 megapixels more light sensitivity. The displays are Super Actua AMOLED with up to 3,600 nits of brightness, and the Pro models also have a new anti-scratch coating that provides double the resistance to scratches.

HiLight – visual AI interaction

One of the standout improvements to the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL is the HiLight feature. It's a strip of LED lights around the camera flash that shows when Gemini is listening, thinking, and responding, and also lets you assign colors to your favorite contacts. The feature allows you to receive visual notifications even when the phone is flipped upside down, as ZDNet points out.

Price and memory limitations

„The Pixel 11 series starts at $899 and the Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099, but all models are $100 more expensive than their predecessors, and the 128GB storage option has been removed entirely due to the memory and storage crisis (Thurrott.com, The Next Web). The minimum RAM is 12GB, and storage options start at 256GB.

Competition with Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Siri

„The Pixel 11 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro have similar specs: a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, a 50MP (Google) or 48MP (Apple) main camera, and 5G connectivity. However, Google is emphasizing Gemini's advantage over Siri, which ZDNet predicts will be updated with Google AI models a few weeks after the Pixel 11 launches. Gemini offers contextual AI that can pull information from various apps, and a Rambler voice-to-text feature that removes filler words. Apple, for its part, is planning to introduce similar capabilities in iOS 27, but their release is scheduled for September (ZDNet).

Conclusions

„The Pixel 11 series puts AI at the center, not just as a standalone feature, but as part of the operating system, allowing users to perform everyday tasks faster and more intuitively. While the price hike and memory constraints pose challenges, the Gemini integration and Tensor G6 performance give the Pixel 11 a real competitive advantage over Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro, especially as Apple prepares to update Siri with similar AI models.

Future prospects

Google’s head of devices, Rick Osterloh, says that the Pixel and iPhone paths are „very different,“ but both are working toward a similar goal—AI that understands context and works across apps (The Next Web). This suggests that AI could become a primary way for users to interact with both the Android and iOS ecosystems in the future.
